Panda Day


The first Panda Day of HKSPC was successfully organized on 5th November 2000 in Ocean Park. Many celebrities, including our ambassador - Mr. Jackie Chan, have attended the opening ceremony.       
 
The overture of the opening ceremony was the song "Giant Panda - Ambassador of Nature" sang by the Yip's Children's Choir.       
 
Other than presenting prizes for the winners of our frontpage design competition and launching the "Friends of the Pandas" signiture wall donation campaign, Jackie has also visited Anan and Jiajia in the Giant Panda Habitat in Ocean Park.       
 
RTHK DJ Ms. Serina Har and Mr. James Fung:" Jackie, what would to like to tell Hong Kong people?" Jackie:"Giant Panda is our national treasure. Every people in Hong Kong should have a share in conservation of giant pandas and their habitat."       
 
Mr. Eddie Lee (Chairman, HKSPC Board of Trustees):" This meaningful Society gives all of us the opportunity to directly help improve the plight of the pandas and at the same time, puts Hong Kong on the International map as a leading conservation oriented city."       
 
Ms Suzanne M. Gendron (Society Director of HKSPC):" We need to work with the community to find a solution for the people to live together harmoniously with the pandas and to protect China's precious biodiversity."       
 
After the ceremony, many visitors have participated in the funfair, which include educational and interesting games, merchandise sales and exhibition.
