The 10th Anniversary Celebration of Ocean Park Conservation Foundation cum 9th Ocean Park Conservation Day


The 10th Anniversary Celebration cum the 9th Ocean Park Conservation Day was successfully held on 10 January 2004. The Foundation would like to specially thank Ocean Park Corporation for donating all the on-day gate proceeds to us for supporting the Foundation's scientific researches and educational programmes relating to marine mammal and marine conservation. We also sincerely thanked the following guests of honor to support our ceremony:

  • Dr. Sarah Liao, Secretary for the Environmental, Transport and Works of the HKSAR Government
  • Mr. Edison Chen, Education Ambassador Millennium
During the ceremony, 36 golden winners of the "Hand-in-Hand, Save the Whales and Dolphins" Award Scheme last year were given a certificate by our Education Ambassador Millennium, Mr. Edison Chen. The prize to the winner of "Award Scheme Logo Design Competition", Ms Siu Lan Cheng of F.D.B.W.A. Yan Kow School, was also be presented on stage. Ms Cheng's design is now using as the logo of the Award Scheme 2003-2004.

      

All students have fun by participating in the activities, which were all about marine conservation. These included:

"Hand-in-Hand, Save the Whales and Dolphins" - Colourful Dolphin Hand Painting
64 10-year-old students made hand painted a dolphin together to express their passion of protecting the lovely dolphins. The finished colourful dolphin was used as the backdrop of the ceremony!

      

Environmental Game Booth Design Competition
Six primary and secondary schools designed their own game booths to take part in the Environmental Game Booth Design Competition to deliver the messages of marine conservation. SKH Lui Ming Choi Memorial Primary School and Buddhist Tai Hung College won "The Most Popular Booth Award" and "The Most Environmentally Friendly Booth Award" respectively.

      

Marine Conservation Workshop
University students from the City University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong designed workshops to arouse the public's awareness on how human activities affect the marine ecology.

      

Children Talent Show
Students from seven kindergartens and primary schools had their own way to convey the marine conservation messages by performing on stage in dancing and drama. S.K.H. Lui Ming Choi Memorial Primary School (a.m.) won "the Best Teamwork Award" by their energetic dancing and recomposing of lyrics whilst Lok Sin Tong Kindergarten won "the Champion Award" with their beautiful ballet dance.

      

The Conservation Day was full of fun and passion of paying effort on marine conservation. Do not miss the day next time! Come and join us on the 10th Conservation Day on 8 January 2005!

** OPCF holds the "Ocean Park Conservation Day" on the second Saturday in Januarys, in order to promote conserving whales and dolphins as well as their marine habitats. Ocean Park donates all gate proceeds on that day to OPCF to support scientific researches, public awareness and educational programmes.
