Public Awareness Programme 2005

10th Ocean Park Conservation Day
Our 10th annual Conservation Day was celebrated on 8 January 2005 with a VIP awards presentation. Held in Ocean Park Square, the event was officiated by our guests of honour Mr. Frank S. P. Lau, JP, Deputy Director of Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation Department; Prof. Paul K. H. Tam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong; and Mr. Andy Lau, Foundation Ambassador. We thank Ocean Park Corporation for its generous donation of the gate revenue for the day, amounting to HK$1.25 million, to the Foundation. Our thanks also go to Baleno for its generous sponsorship of T-shirts for the event, and Innonation who kindly presented a performance by children with Mr. Andy Lau.
Mr. Andy Lau presented prizes to the 42 golden winners of the Award Scheme 2003-04, including Ms Wong Pui Man of Lions College who won the Award Scheme Slogan Design Competition with the Chinese slogan "Joint hands to protect dolphins is full of fun, everyone plays their role in conserving the ocean."
The event also included a presentation to winners of the Environmental Game Booth Design Competition. Intended to promote the message of marine conservation, the competition became a friendly battle between six primary and secondary schools. United Christian College was winner of Most Popular Booth, while the prize of Most Environmentally-Friendly Booth went to CCC Tam Lee Lai Fun Memorial Secondary School.
This fun-filled day of celebration was completed with the presentation of certificates by Prof. Paul Tam to the six recipients of the 2004-05 University Sponsorship Programme in Marine Conservation. Jointly organised by the Foundation and the Swire Institute of Marine Science of the University of Hong Kong, this important new programme aimed to encourage and train local university students to actively participate in scientific research for marine mammal conservation.
