The 8th Ocean Park Conservation Day


 
OPCF holds the "Ocean Park Conservation Day" on the second Saturday in Januarys, in order to promote conserving whales and dolphins and their marine habitat. Ocean Park donates all gate proceeds on that day to OPCF to support scientific researches, public awareness and educational programmes.       
 
The 8th Ocean Park Conservation Day was held successfully on 11th January 2003 at the Ocean Park Square. Dr. F. Y. Wong, Assistant Director (Country & Marine Parks) of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department; Ambassador of the Foundation, Mr. Andy Lau; Education Ambassador Millennium, Mr. Edison Chan; the newly-appointed Marine Conservation Ambassador, Ms. Joey Yung; Mr. Daniel Fung, Executive Director of Baleno Holding Limited; Mr. Randolph Guthrie, Chief Executive of Ocean Park Corporation; and the Foundation Trustees, including Mr. Stanley Yip, Mr. Po Chung OBE, JP and Mr. Matthias Li as well as Ms. Suzanne Gendron, Foundation Director had all come to support the event.       
 
Six hundred students from eighteen schools and three hundred Mingpao readers, as well as our guests of honour, used their pictures to assembly a dolphin mosaic to show their love and care on marine mammals.       
 
2001-2002 "Hand-in-Hand Save Whales and Dolphins" Award Scheme well completed last year with 3281 students from 103 schools participated. A grant but simple prize presentation has been taken place on the day. 97 of the Golden Award students received their certificate on stage.       
 
To promote marine conservation, six schools from 2002-2003 "Hand-in-Hand Save Whales and Dolphins" Award Scheme designed and produced game booths for the game booth competition during the event. Pok Oi Hospital Chan Kai Memorial College won both prizes for "Most environmental-friendly booth" and "Most Popular booth" with their creative design.
