Regular monitoring allows the team to collect important data on how the released animals adapt to their new environment, including their natural feeding regimes, social behaviours and habitat interactions. This information will help improve future release strategies for other individuals and species, increasing their overall survival rate.
Planning the Next Steps in West Visayas
To date, over five hectares of the site has been surveyed for habitat suitability, threats and presence of species, and enclosures have been constructed at the soft release site. These animals are now being housed in separate enclosures so that their health and behaviour can be recorded and analysed; once complete, they will be fully released into the wild. Community outreach and education efforts are also underway, including hiring local personnel and an education officer, to enhance support for and cooperation in this project and future conservation efforts.
